Welcome and congrats on the new baby! Don't worry, this is perfectly normal. The pet shop you bought him from was a familiar place to him. He would have had his home (cage) and a place to talk to his birdy friends. They are always friendly and excited in the petshop, just wanting to play.
Suddenly, he's in a new place and it can be overwhelming for a little baby at first. He'll go quiet and shy and may even nip in fright. With gentle encouragemt, he will soon get used to his new home and start exploring. Give him a little while to settle into his new room, and survey his surroundings. When he's settled a bit, sit by his cage- talk to him, whistle, chirp and sing to him. If you're lucky, he might respond. If not, that's ok. Keep telling him how much fun you're going to have ;) How old's your bub and was he hand reared? Can he step up? Young hand reared lorikeets adapt pretty easily to new places. Have a read through some of the threads on the lorikeet board, and you'll learn lots about them!
