Jannabell(cockatiel) and I would both jump when a neighbor was setting off what I guess were M80s in preperation for the 4th, a few days early. It was REALLY loud. But then we would both calm down and I would tell her it's okay and all. She was similarly startled when we had a particualrly violent thunderstorm. However, her main reaction to a thunderstorms is to hunker down and go to sleep. Last night, with the main town fireworks a little in the distance, she did run up my arms a few times and look at me as if to ask if it was dangerous. I told her about fireworks and how we were fine, and she seemed fine with it, overall. Usually when she's startled by crows outside, or the neighbors noises, if I tell her I hear it too and it's ok, it won't hurt us, she is usually good. The one exception to that was my neighbor has a toy fake bird that has some kind of 'song' that completely terrified her, I wonder what it was 'saying'?. But I have to say, she's not bothered much by noise, like vacuums, or my more expressive friends. She is however sensitive to movements or shadows she dosen't immediately understand, that will startle her.
