OK...

These do not look so hard. All you need is cotton or sisal rope. Sisal is sold by the foot at the hardware store. Cotton is sold by foot or bulk:
Cotton rope

You just need to start at one corner (make each piece of rope about one third longer than you want finished piece to be). Knot weft around warp, then knot warp around weft (yeah... I do ren faires and have weaving experience). The do one to side, one below then one diagonal the same way.

<wonders how much she could get for these out of machine washable cotton at next bird fair>
