A vet in the state of california can legally treat ferrets and quakers which are both illegal, I need to look up what that exemption is called...
You cant legally buy the birds in question, you would have to buy the cage and the birds come with the cage.
If someone reported you with having an illegal animal, you have a limited time to remove them from the state before they are confiscated, which essentially they would be put down (ex angry ex boyfriend/girlfriend want to get back at you, I see that scenario a lot, oh and divorces too)
that being said, I know many people who bring them into ca straight from Arizona, infact you can find maps that show you routes without checkpoints
My vet alone sees many many quakers and ferrets, when you are looking for a vet ask them if they will see quakers, so if you do decide to buy the cage that comes with 2 birds keep in mind the risks involved, oh and dont keep them in view of your front door/window for this reason
our courts in ca are more than a little busy, to search out and remove every illegal animal would be suicidal and send us into bankruptcy (we can thank our friends on the border for that if you live in souther cally).
Therefore if someone you know reports you for whatever reason, most likely they wont put the time and effort into a very comprehensive search warrant if they go in and prove a search warrant is justifies to the judge to begin with, now if your illegal bird is in view of your front door then it is in public view and then you will be given a time limit to remove the animal, search warrant or no warrant.
Now say the animal is towards the back of the house and out of view, if they dont have a search warrant you are good to go, since most likely they will ask YOU if they can enter YOUR home, and YOU will do the smart thing and say NO, since YOU have no legal obligation with no search warrant to let them in your home.
Most people can avoid convictions all together if they would 1. keep their mouth shut (once you confess you are cheap to process through the court system, now if you dont most likely they will throw out the case) 2. Let them search you more than you are legally bound to let them
Now most people on here spouting all this junk would be the ones to see the police officer at their door and immediately break down, and give them the whole story, and watch they werent even there for that reason, then invite them to search their house.
