I discovered this place a few weeks ago, but I figured I'd say thank you to everyone here for all your help with my new Sennie Jake. It's really great to have a resource like this to share ideas and methods of care for our little friends. I was first turned on to birds by my boyfriend when he took me to this great pet store that had a bunch of Cockatoos out. They had SUCh personality and I was fascinated. My only prior experience with a bird was a parakeet I bought when I was 15 that was cute, but died after a few weeks unexpectedly (hence my over-babying Jake). And my only experience with a bigger bird was a Gray that my uncle Mike had tried to rehabilitate. It hated humans, because it had been abused by a former owner. It was very withdrawn and would BITE (couldn't go near it) and for some reason, being younger, I just assumed that's the way parrots were. Boy was I wrong and it's funny to think that there are A LOT of people who have that misconception. I educate most people I meet and even family members with Jake, because they've never seen that side of birds. I never thought in a million years that I would take such an interest like this. And what a fun learning experience as well. That's all I have to say really! Thanks for reading if you made it this far!
