[Windinherhair]

Hello folks.
This weekend my beloved Fletcher and Orsola died.
Fletcher was a Sun Conure (6 yr old) and Orsola a Green Cheeked Conure (4ish).
I was actually away doing a sponsored cycle run from London to Paris when it happened, but hubby and the kids were here.
The birds were in our den up in the back garden. They were inside a big strong cage.
When hubby went to open up on Sunday morning, he found the two of them on the bottom of the cage.
Their food container on top of the cage had been chewed at, and the lid was found out in the field next to us.
There were feathers and mess scattered about the cage, so there has been a bit of a panic.
We are guessing that the fox, who has been prowling around a lot recently, has got into the den and tried to get at them.
He has been unsuccessful due to the strong cage, but probably "startled them to death".
Has anyone else known this to happen?
Hubby didn't know to keep them in the fridge, so the avian vet didn't want to carry out post mortems.
I feel so so bad about it. I wish I'd been here. I might have checked on them sooner and managed to help them. Accepting their premature deaths is one thing, but thinking that they might have been lying there suffering is unbearable.
I really am so heartbroken.
