Hello From The Uk
Hi everyone,
A nice chap informed me about this site as somewhere similar to the UK forum I help moderate called Parrot-Link.co.uk. As an introduction to myself I've cheated a little and copied my Profile from there:
Motorcycles are in our blood - over 30 years each in building and riding. We mostly keep Vintage british bikes but also have a Cossack sidecar outfit and a HD Evo. My speciality was building trikes from those great little 3 wheeled cars the Reliant Robin.
I was seriously into showing and working (obedience, work trials, agility) my dogs - Giant Schnauzers then German Wirehaired Pointers but am now not-well-abled so am home 24/7.
My past experience as a Canine Behaviourist has now changed paths to me working with parrots - specialising in running a free helpline trying to bring harmony to parrots and their owners so birds can stay with their people (wherever possible) rather than start the 'For Sale' route.
I only take in 2 or 3 birds a year as rescues which are then lifetime-adopted out to approved homes as best suits the individual parrot.
Our most recent addition is a 45+ year old Festive Amazon (Jo-Jo) whose previous owner's wife has Alzheimers so has come here to live out her days ... hopefully many years. She is a placid old soul and rapidly seems to be regaining joy in life.
My other time consumers are .... Parrots and Parroty things, my long suffering and loverly Hubby, eBay, the Quantock Hills (in Somerset where we live), our dog Pebbles and KEEPING SMILING.
In the Uk Festive Amazons are incredibly rare (like mine they were brought over singly by sailors in the early 1960s) so there is no information at all on keeping them. My Old Girl is a wonderfully friendly parrot who loves to lie on your chest resting her beak on your chin for hours.
She is not like any other Amazon I have come across ... even her feathering is different - much denser and more like an Eclectus than an Amazon.
Are they more common in the US?
Can anyone share experiences with me?
Anyway, enough from me .... look forward to meeting you all and why not pop over to Parrot-Link and visit?
