Smile Howdy! Bryan from Singapore

Hi to parrot lovers from around the world. Bryan here from Singapore.

It's really nice to find my way here over to this great forum on birds. It's a great place where we can our experience and knowledge on birds.

Personally I'm not new to parrots and parrot training. I currently have a Senegal Parrot named Kermit, he (presumed to be a male but might a female, anyway nt DNAed) will be 1 year old very soon. He's closely bonded to me. Although he does allow others to handle him, but most of the time he will rather hop off after while and look for me. He does have some sign of "one person behavior", thou I've still continue to discourage this behavior and correcting it. He's funny, cute and acrobatic, he definitely close to an active and clownish behavior of a caique, but probably lack in the showoff and outgoing personalities.

I do train Kermit to perform some simple tricks, although he's nt really an enthusiatic performer or a showoff (he's nt willing to perform anything in front of visitors or strangers in batch size of 4-5 or more, he more likely to be in a stoned condition or in trauma when facing new crowds or new environment. Perhaps that's the biggest downside of Poicephalus Parrots, extreme shyness and fearfulness). so far he can perform simple tricks like:

1. Basketball Trick
2. Turn-a-Round Trick
3. Hand-shaking Trick
4. Waving Hello Trick
5. Somersault Trick

So far he does speak a few word, but usually words like "Peek-a-Boo" and "Pretty Bird". He's more willing to mimick sound like "Microwave Beep" and "Wolf Whistle". He definitely the quietest parrot I ever owned, but he does capable to be noisy and loud if he wants to. I've admit he does scream if he need to vent out his frustration. Luckily he doesn't pick that up as a habit.

I used to have a lovebird, named Kiki (we knew she's a male when we happen to see her rubbing her vents, but my mum still remain labelling a female. ). I consider her as my first angels among the companion parrots I owned. She's really great and talent, but unfortunately I lost her during one incident (it's a long story). She's responsive to training cues and commands, I do consider her as one of my most sucessful trainee.

Till the date I lost her, she's able to perform a total of 17 tricks and commands. Here are the lists of tricks and commands, she can perform:

1. Up & Down Command
2. Turn-A-Round Trick
3. Nodding Command
4. Fetching Trick (a.k.a Retrieval Trick)
5. Wing Command
6. Coin Depositing Trick
7. Ring Tossing Trick
8. Somersault Trick
9. Shake Hand Trick (Right Leg)
10. Waving Hello Trick (Left Leg)
11. Through the Hoop Trick (Hoop Command)
12. Open & Fetch Trick (A Component of Shell Game)
13. The Bell Trick
14. Cups Stacking Trick
15. Pull a Car Trick
16. Tunnel Trick
17. Basketball Trick

Surprisingly she managed to win herself the third prize in the Best Trick Competition in an National Parrot Event in Singapore. She did fairly well rivaling other bigger cousins like Amazon, Cockatoo, Hawk-Headed Parrot and Sun Conures.

Sad to say I no longer can see her perform for my family members and friends.
