Look At What Hubby Brought Home From Work Now...

A warning... this is not a pretty story so read at your own risk.

Yeah... really. He messaged me from work and said come outside. He opened the back of our truck and this is what was inside.

I've named her (it's a heifer! (girl)) Blessing.

As I have mentioned before (and no debates please, it's not like I'm fond of all this either) my husband is a feed truck driver/maintainance man for a cattle feed lot. This little girl was born there just about an hour ago. I named her Blessing because it is amazing that she was born at all. Generally when the heifers come in they get abortion shots to prevent the mothers from dying during birthing. This mother didnt get one because she was in a group of cows from Hawaii that were not supposed to have been exposed to bulls. Babies born on the lot often die if left in the pens with their mothers because they get trampled or lose their Mom and don't get milk. The feed that is fed to the cows also tends to make it so the babies lungs and stomachs don't form properly which makes them very short lived. On occasion one will beat the odds and live long enough to make it to the sale barn to make more money for the boss (although generally only about $30 per calf REALLLLLL low because everyone knows the fed lot calves aren't always the best at surviving). I know this is terrible but they were just going to take this little girl to the "dead pile" and leave her to die so my husband brought her home. We have no idea how long we will have her for but we will love her for the time we get. We are going to clean her up and get her started eating and hope for the best.

Oh and yes, we've bottle fed and cared for calves in the past and no, she isn't coming in the house
