Senegals from what I have seen (and from owning one) tend to be a little more on the shy side and need a little bit more time to settle in than say an amazon or a conure.

It took me a good two months when I brought my Joey home for him to decide that I was an okay person to be trusted. Try sitting with your senegal and reading to her, limiting the eye contact. If she is as shy as you say (or even trying to bite you when you try to interact with her) she is probably in need of gaining your trust. Walk by her cage several times a day, and drop in a favored treat for her. Again, talk in low tones, bending down to her level, and do not look her directly in the eye for long periods of time. Read to her and see if you can get her to let you touch her, and then move from there. This should take place over several weeks, maybe even months time. Senegals seem to be very intelligent little birds for their size, and there is a lot of wheel turning going on between those yellow eyes.

A good book you might try is My Parrot, My Friend.
