I got up early on Saturday and made the 2 hour drive out to see Hans. When I first got there he was on major amazon overload, K (his owner) said he had never really seen him that excited before. . . It turns out my voice really gets him worked up. After a few minutes of talking to him, I got him to step up for me and we sat down and talked for quite a while. Here's Hans about 15 minutes after I met him.
He calmed down pretty quick. I felt really bad though because he was biting at K whenever he tried to get him to come back.
I think I was out there for about 2 hours before K said "well, how about we try to fit this cage in your car?" I wasn't actually planning on getting him home on Saturday. I wasn't able to get a bigger vehicle and I didn't think his cage could fit in my tiny Saturn. . . . . Somehow, with not even one inch to spare in my car or my trunk, we fit both his cage and a few boxes of his stuff in my car! (this one was really meant to be) There are still two stands of his that I can go back out there and get if I want. . . K is honestly an awesome person and felt pretty bad for leaving there with Hans.
Hans talked to me and let me pet him through the carrier door pretty much the entire way home. K had called his vet and had them fax over Hans records so I gave my vet a call on the way home. I talked to him for a few minutes and he told me that he got his records and everything looked great. He even has a copy of his blood test and full workup that was done two months ago so we know his levels and everything are pretty much perfect!
I know I should have Qed him anyway but with the dwarfs in the basement I didn't have a great place to do it and after talking to my vet and deciding that he was totally healthy, I decided to just go ahead and put him in the living room. Here he is right after we got home.
I let him meet the flock and much to my surprise Peppers loves him! They were grooming each other within about five minutes of meeting! Peppers gets mad if I separate them. I expected him to want to hurt Hans but instead for the first day he wanted to bite ME for coming near them. He's calmed down a lot already but that was interesting there for a bit.
Peppers is soo much more animated now. He's making amazon noises rather then chicken clucks! Hans is doing amazing too. He already wants me to pet and preen him and he loves just sitting on my hand. Unfortunately he hasn't taken to Matt quite yet but he will be home with him all day today so hopefully that will help.
Oh yeah, and one thing Hans keeps telling me is "I love you" Talk about melting your heart! I could tell you guys a whole lot more about him but I'll save that for later, I have to get to work!
