Smile My son, the "bird whisperer"

My son Ryan is 11 and he is awesome with all of our birds. He's a very mature, gentle kid, and they all love him. But, he wanted a bird all his own. I knew that he would take very good care of a pet, so we got him a little blue budgie from a local hobby breeder and he was thrilled. She hatched at the end of June so she's quite young still.

He named "her" Heather (we have no clue - I can never tell with budgies) and has been very patiently giving her time to adjust to her new home these last couple of weeks. Sunday night we decided to take her out for the first time to see how she does with people. Birds usually like me but not this one. She wanted nothing at all to do with me, but went right to Ryan and climbed up his shirt.

She let him scritch her on the head, and even stepped up on his finger several times. He was so happy that she liked him. And I was such a proud Mom.
