I'd rather talk someone out of owning a bird than to have them go out and purchase one---traumatize it by not paying attention to it, feeding it properly etc....and getting rid of it a year or so later.
I recently met a wonderful orange winged amazon who was left in a cold garage by his owner until frost bite took over---he is now a one legged, one toed amazon who is grateful for his life being saved.
I also met another bird who after 30 yrs had its owner die....the son decided to leave it alone in its home for 10 mo's and feed it "when he remembered every three days or so" and so---the bird pulled out all its feathers and started to mutilate.....
I wish everyone buying a bird would go meet some of those less than perfect bird-souls to see what bad treatment leads to.
