Yeah my dogs are scared of my alexandrine a bit, (My dogs are Gordan Setters..NOT tiny in the slightest) and my bird whenever they approach automatically starts biting their noses and the dogs turn away and sulk.
Though when I wasn't home one of them got a hold of Icarus and was holding him in his mouth...blood everywhere...don't get me wrong the dog was in agony the bird shredded the inside of his mouth..bird completely un scaved except one missing feather. :|

Answer to your question, don't trust your dogs, mine are gentle and sweet but they are still predators.
Im slowly teaching both mine to be gentle around the bird, 'sit' when they see him. It's working but I keep close watch and a hand on the collar for safety..as 'Ashling' said, one slip of the paw and it could break the poor fids ><
