new to bird keeping

Hello,

We are in the process of getting our first big bird as both my husband bucky and I have had previous experience with birds, his was a sun conure and mine was a cockatiel

We live in Citrus County, Florida. So anyone local to us hello there especially )

We are looking at getting an Eclectus parrot as we want a family bond as opposed to a one person bird we have yet to actually narrow down the specific sub species due to conflicting information on which one is the best to get atm we are lookin at getting a red side. Does anyone have any experience with multiple subspecies of Eclectus that would be willin to share their experiences?

Also I was wondering about the adoption of a bird that has been turned in by a previous owner ~ not the real problematic ones but just like the ones that the owner did not have the time to care for it. We currently know of a red side that needs a forever home. obviously we are goin to actually visit the bird a few times to get a feel for how it behaves and such but is there a reason to not get a 5 yr old bird. I mean if it does not talk alot will it if it is happy here? and will it exhibit bad behavior in a number of visits (i mean bad habits ~ cant these be broken??) I mean how set does a bird get in it's ways? do they change when circumstances get better or do they remember bein neglected forever?

Thanks in advance
