Dana, I will answer your question and then I am going to drop the post. This thread was originally started to give someone a great deal on a product that is sitting on a shelf in my cabinet, and not for me to have to defend my choice of treatment of my birds.

I believe that I have every right to medicate and treat my birds as I and my vet see fit, and I do not have to answer up to any one on this board as long as my guys are getting optimal vet care. There are probably a hundred people or more on this very board who NEVER even take their birds to the vet, so don't flame me for doing what I (and my vet) felt was right.

Joey, my senegal, HAS been on homeopathic medicine for the past six months, and while it did help for a while I took him to the vet as soon as the problem escalated. Pluck No More worked for a while when he only picked up underneath his wings (as I said I think it was originally due to a bad wing trim we think), but the minute my little guy started ripping out chest feathers my vet and I decided that time was of an essence, and we did not want to take the chance that an over the counter medication may or may not stop it. We felt that the longer we waited dilly dallying with over the counter drugs the worse (and more habitual) the feather picking would become.

Joey is also out and away from my birds being retrained on how to step up, as he seems to have been in a dominance struggle since coming to live with me early 2008. We have had serious issues with him fear biting and with him jumping off my hand anytime I try to pick him up and screaming bloody murder. The medicine is also supposed to help with these issues, and my vet and I are hoping to only have him on the haloperidol for a month. I have worked with my vet since 2002, and I fully trust the decisions that I make with my vet's guidance. As I have already stated, and want to stress, I think it is ridiculous to have to answer to anyone as to how I choose to treat my birds, when I know there are people out there who don't even take their birds to the vet.

I am glad that you and your vet have decided that the best route for your baby is to try the more natural route and over the counter drugs. I would never talk down to anyone about choices that they made concerning their animals care, as long as they were taking their animals to the vet.

I am done with this topic, if anyone is interested in the Pluck No More please PM me.
