Chief and Tootie are notorious for soup-making. Like Dana, I am constantly changing water. I've tried putting water across the cage, putting it higher than the food, having multiple bowls of water...none of that stops them. Tootie will actually pick up a pellet one at a time and Tarzan her way across all the toys in her cage to get to her water bowl on the other side to dip. No wonder the little rat is always eating! It takes forever just for one bite

Chief thinks everything has to go in water before she'll touch it. She's also a big fan of dropping the wood pieces from toys in the water to make it change colors, then getting her feet and beak all wet and dyed. It's nothing to walk in their room and see Chief with a purple or blue or green beak She's shreds her phone book and places the pages in her water like she's trying to paper mache' her cage. I could change her water every hour and I still would not be happy with it's cleanliness. It's like she needs a perpetual fountain

From what I've read, most birds do well with multiple water bowls; one next to their food and one somewhere else in the cage. That way they have one to dip and play, and another to have fresh clean water. Obviously, they still will need to be changed often, but maybe your Severe just wants a little 'Soup' with his entree
