I was just coming on her to post a thread about travelling with birds I need some SERIOUS advice!!!! I am most definitely moving to Australia at the end of the year. I plan to be there for probably 3 years. I have a few dilemas....
1) I have a green cheek conure, and I've heard that there are billaws against them in Australia, so my first question is if there are any Aussies out there who can confirm this, or anyone else who has relocated to Australia with their GCC?
2) I'm in Canada, so the flight to Australia is pretty much 20-24hrs, is that even safe for my bird??? I usually fly with Ducky in the cabin with me, max 2hr flight, she's very quiet during the flight and I worry about her but have never noticed any problems on such a low altitude and short time flight. But the flight to Australia will be at greater altitudes and much much longer.
3) I was reading about Australian pet import guides that the pet had to be in the manifested cargo, not the cabin. Does anyone know why that is? I would be very uncomfortable having my bird in the cargo where I couldn't see her. How is the temperature/pressure/oxygen in there? Also, what about water? If she's not there with me to offer her water once in a while, then I would have to leave it in the cage, what if she got wet and caught a chill?

I'm really stressing out about this, I can't leave Ducky for more than a few months, but I can't do anything that would endanger her. So, please if anyone has experience importing their birds from north america to australia please share!!
