Dusky Pionus Mating

Ah, finally after 4 years of waiting. This one pair of Dusky Pi's that I have was once together but after having them for about 4 months, the male started giving the female the run around on wanting to chase her endlessly. She would stress to no end so I split them up then about a week later I had put them back together and within 5 minutes he was doing the same thing so I split them up and they had been apart ever since.

They have been in separate cages sitting side by side in cages all that time for the 4 years. About 4 months or so ago I had noticed how they seem to be flirting with each other and looking friendly with one another... and I had been preparing a new cage for them so I needed to also try and pair up a pair of Coral Bills and I would need to shift some birds around to make the transition possible for both the Dusky pair and the Coral Bill pair... so I took the plunge and paired up the Duskys... they got along great right off the bat and I have seen no problems and I even saw the female a time or two hunching down in a female mating role ... and was making her noises at him.

Today I actually saw them mating!! I do not have a nest box in place for them yet because it is a bit too cold here. Along by the end of April I will put in the nest box.

As for the Coral Bill pair, I had to split them up because the female was chasing the male and bullying him too much, I am thinking it might be more like when I am around in the aviary. She is one heck of a strong headed female.

Anyway, do hope my Dusky pair does well and all!
