Not sure if there is any difference as far as singing/talking goes with the different sexes, but I do know that one love bird kept alone is fine. She doesn't talk or whistle but she does imitate sounds. Neither one of my tiels whistles. They are both female and don't do anything but call (kind of annoying at times), but my daughters male whistles. I love having my lovebird because she is a big clown and I think one is better than two, because she bonds with me and not another bird. I know that is kind of selfish, but all my birds get one on one attention and have the company of each other in the same room when I am not home.
