You already know the answer. Neither solution will protect your other birds. You are correct abt the air. You are taking a risk. Do you feel confident that this new addition is well? Can you bring him/her for a well birdie check and at least leave him/her in his old home until you've had that assurance that all is OK. Then you could visit for a bit each day. To me, that would be a solution of sorts if you aren't really certsin this bird is totally well.
BTW I think you are wonderful and amzing for bringing this little guy into your flock.
