Meyer's are great little birds. I have one, Gonzo, and he is super. I'm an adult and live alone, but Gonzo has no problems adapting to my parents' very packed, loud house over holiday weekends. He was/is super gentle with my young neice even though he isn't normally around children.
Another big plus is that they don't produce dust like cockatiels. We had a cockatiel when I was young, and although I loved her, she sure was dusty. They're also relatively quiet. They aren't super cuddly, so that's something to consider. Gonzo likes his scratches and nesting on my chest while we watch TV, but he isn't conure-cuddly, which is fine with me.
Good luck.
