Had to put my Sunny to sleep on 3/26/06
I just don't know what to do now. My 6 yr. old sulfur crested cockatoo was suffering with PDD proventricular dilatation disease also call wasting away disease. I was so horrified when the vet told me this. I knew what this disease does and I knew my Sunny was dieing of a slow death. I had to stop his suffering. I told the vet theres no way he had this I was so careful. He wasn't around other birds and I wasn't either. He said the chances are he had it when I bought Sunny 6 yrs ago from the pet store. He said birds can carry this disease for years and then all the sudden it can show its ugly head. I am so devastated over the loss of my Sunny. Words can not express how much pain I feel. I can't even eat or sleep. My heart aches for him every second. But this isn't the end this disease is transmittable and I have to worry about my Missy (greenwing macaw) and Emma (military macaw) having this horrible disease now. THERE IS NO CURE!!!! We just finished building an addition to our home just for my birds. I also bought a hyacinth macaw which she was supposed to come and live with us in April. But now she can't because my other 2 macaws could be carrying it. I just can't believe this happened. Sunny was the sweetest and kindest bird I ever met. He never bite anyone, he wasn't loud just very sweet and loved to cuddle with us. I wish I had given him more attention, toys and love when he was here. I am so lost without him.
