My sympathies - did just what you 2 are doing, for over 4 years. It would end up that I had to go & get my fix at least once a month - if I went too often I got so full of want.
The fall bird shows are something to look forward too. Less birds are showing but you can meet breeders there & sometimes there are good cages, toys & deals on feed. This is where I began looking at Canaries & Java Finches or African Starings, as possibilities. Not all fantastic birds are parrots.
It sounds like you are quite taken with the Pionus. I saw a beautiful Blue headed Pionus at the Younge /401 Petsmart. I think they wanted 799.99 (translation 800
). They also carry some great cages. They also had some beautiful IRN's, & then ...... it never stops.
