I think most people just have no idea how emotional and loving birds are. They have feelings just as much if not more so than cats and dogs. The article makes a good point about treaing a show dog vs a mutt someone got for free. No one would hesitate to spend money saving little Johnny's pet mutt so why should our precious Fids be any different? I love my Tiels which I got for free (born in my home) just as much as people who pay $8000 for a Macaw in Australia.
