I've used plain newspaper (no coloured pages) for many years. Not only is it a good use of the paper after reading, but then it goes out to the compost heap to make some of the best topsoil you could want for a garden. Forget the expensive and fancy-schmancy, just use the morning news (it is really what it deserves, :-) )
