That's a great idea!
... I've been been doing something similar to it for about year on a slightly larger scale. If you have a larger parrot/bird, get a roll of cheap plain unscented/untreated flat (no pattern) toilet paper (singly ply is less messy), and put it on the larger 3/4" to 1" purchases or swings. However, you should make sure each nite to maybe re-rollup the paper (all that you can) so that you're bird doesn't make too big a mess and cut down on his available cage space with a bunch of paper.
