well, a scarlet is totally diff from a blue and gold, temperament-wise. if you can, find someone who has a scarlet that is mature, and talk to them about their personalities and see if you can interact with them. they are alot more stubborn and tempermental, feisty birds. some people love fiesty birds, but a feisty, temperamental macaw is not for a first-time macaw owner, JMHO. we raise scarlets sometimes for customers, but personally, i dont think most scarlets would be right for me, i love B&Gs, and gw's even more. Right now we are raising a scarlet for someone, hes prob the sweetest and most gentle scarlet we have had so far. he hasnt started to show his "cranky" side...yet. hes still very young though. he already is showing a preference for me, hes not that great with my husband, even though he plays wtih him too. he loves for me to baby talk to him and pet him, he seeks out my attention. the last scarlet we raised was way too independant and rowdy for us, he would never come to us for anything, except for his formula, sometimes. i like birds that will seek out our attention, but alot of times, the last scarlet seemed like he didnt wanna have anything to do with us, but this current scarlet seems alot different from the last one.

when i had a blue and gold, she was the sweetest, most cuddly bird ever. she would lay in my lap on her back, and i could hold her feet and carry her around like a little purse, upside down, lol. she would still play on her own, but she loved to be come down from her cage or playstand to be with me, i miss her dearly :(
