I've always found it really cool that people can train their birds so well, but I'm too paranoid to try to do that anymore, and have never ever been comfortable enough to try anything like that with most of my birds.
When I was a teenager and not as experienced or quite as paranoid with all my birds I used to take my unclipped ring neck doves out of the aviary. Surprisingly none ever went flying (so I can't call them free flying, but it's the closest I've ever had any of my birds get to that), they just perched calmly on my hand or arm until I returned them to the aviary. If I had done that with any of my budgies, or cockatiels, they'd have been off and gone for ever I'm sure.
