Welcome Allison, I too am new here, funny thing, I lost a cockatiel due to my wife cooking okra and forgetting all about it and the water boiled over and put out the gas flame, so the poor cockatiel's system couldn't handel the gas, poor thing, we were so close to him, does anybody know where to purchase a little tiny gas mask for birds? heh heh. but anyhow you are right about the empty cage, it wasnt long before we got a green cheek, and since then we learned some very serious lessons about bird husbandry, such as -NO BIRDS IN THE KITCHEN, NO CATS OR NATURAL PREDATORS IN THE HOUSE(UNLESS HE IS BIG ENOUGH TO KICK THE CATS' BUTT), MAKE SURE THEY ARE CLIPPED, OH AND I ALMOST FORGOT.......MAKE IT SO THAT THE BIRD KNOWS THAT HE/SHE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN YOUR LIFE, HEH HEH.
It is too bad it costs a precious birds' life each time just to learn these important lessons, too bad there isn't such a thing as practice birds lol.
I am for sure going to look into getting one of those pinappple green cheeks, man they are beautiful......LMB
