since asbestos was removed from use teflon was used to replace it many electrical appliances have it insulating the wireing (this is the usual coating on the wires it self) most larger units such as stoves use woven fiberglass so no real worry there, but the smaller units which are primarily electronic in nature such as microwave units use teflon wiring and if they shortor other wise have malfunctons could indeed give off over heated teflon poison. thisnis not a usual threat but can happen.
