I don't believe it's fair to make a generalization about "kids nowadays" because of the actions of a few. I know a lot of kids and not one would I label a hooligan.
Also, "discipline" has different meanings to different people. I think your meaning here is physical punishment, something I am vehemently against for kids AND birds. It's better to discipline your kids without hitting them, with positive methods, just like it's better to train birds that way.
Hopefully I'm not causing too much drama here. I just think it's so interesting how many parallels there are between raising kids and raising birds. I'm glad to have the experience of raising a rambunctious little boy before I get my parrot!
