Dear Hugs28, I am so sorry about the three birds that you have lost. If I was too quick to work on the problem and forgot to express my condolences about the birds, then I am indeed sorry. I hope you get some help with the problem, but mainly you should move the birds and their cages to a new location in the dining room -- even if only for a week or so. While we work on the situation, we need to get things eliminated. What is the temp in that room right by the register? And could you open it up (remove the register) and vacuum in there as much as you can to remove anything that might be a factor. Maybe even keep some of it in a bag if you need it later to be checked out. Just use soap and water to wash the wall, you might do that as well. The old hutch that you had in there was acting as a "receiver" of the air from the register; when you removed it, the full air was coming out. If the hutch is really too tall, then I would make or buy something that is all tall as you can stand to put the cages on. I realize that the HQ multiple cages had a stand, but it is really too small to ward off the airflow. You need to put something in the middle to really deflect the air. No matter what happens, this is what I can see as a potential problem in the future.
