I'd say that TOP and Foundation Formula may be the best brands out there.... then Harrison's and Dr Mac's (not available outside of Australia as far as I'm aware of - but last I heard she was planning on finding distributors in America). After that I can't really say...
But brands that I'd recommend to stay clear from include Kaytee, Pretty Bird, 8in1, or Brown's... and we are only talking pellets here... I don't care for these brands because they are cheap... Studies have shown that feeding cats and dogs cheap food DOES cause health problems... in fact both of our cats were on cheap food until the male had a urinary tract infection. He was put on a vet recommended UTI food for a couple of months, then my mother switched to a cheap brand of UTI formula... and he ended up getting a SECOND UTI... since he's been put back on the expensive food ($16 for like a 5.5lb bag, or $40 for a 16.5lb bag). Since staying on this diet, the cat hasn't had any more UTI's... so my thoughts are the same when it comes to bird food...
I'd say Zupreem and Lafeber are one of the higher/better brands of the lower type (i.e. Purina vs Ol' Yeller, if it's a fair enough example).... There's also Roudybush, Dr D's, Breeders Blend, Hagen, Lakes, Scenic, Mazuri, Zeigler, and who knows what all other brands out there, which I wouldn't even be sure where to classify.
And if that's not enough, I don't recommend feeding dyes in ANY form to our birds... sure, dyed toys, so long as they don't eat them... but otherwise, don't give them something that has dyes in it!
