They are okay to give to the larger macaws, mainly the hyacinths. Would not give too much too frequently though, like PowerBBS mentioned they are very high in fat. Hyacinths require a higher than normal fat diet. Our Pet Store here sells them, but I think you will probably have to buy them on-line. Shelled would probably be best for your Scarlet. The only two types of birds I have seen to be able to open those REALLY HARD shells are the Hyacinths and Toos. I hit them with a mallot (several times) before they pop open and only give mine as "good bird" treats.
