Crystal is gone now
It happened about two weeks ago but I haven't been able to do this until now.
Crystal was my little baby blue budgie. She was about 6 years old, but very tiny. My friend had a budgie named Tommy and she wanted a second bird very badly so I bought her Crystal for her birthday. Eventually, Tommy died from old age and Crystal was all alone. I took Crystal into my flock and she made friends with my other two female budgies. She had a crack on her beak, and we didn't understand what it was. We thought it was healing, but we were wrong. Crystal had a tumor on her beak. She lived for about another year until finally I decided to get her put down. Crystal's beak was getting too overgrown from the tumor, and she was having troubles breathing in the last month of her life. So I chose to put her down. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. The veterinarian and the techs were very kind and comforting, but the whole time I couldn't help but think "shut up you do this several times a day you probably don't really care anymore." and I couldn't help but feel embarrassed about them seeing me cry. It also felt very weird going to the till to pay to have my bird killed....
I hope I did the right thing, and I hope crystal is in a better place now, flying and tweeting away with her beloved Tommy.
