I highly recommend as a must have:

"Lets Celebrate Pet Birds" by T.J. Lafeber D.V.M. This book, to me, presented things in a way that most books didn't. It starts out simple enough for a beginner and ends up giving more insight into what birds are than other books. Once the basic requirements are met (cage size, diet, etc.) I think understanding birds is most important in making them happy. I think it should be a first book for every bird owner.

On Sunday I ordered both Melinda Johnson's book on clicker training and the clicker from Amazon.com. Can't wait to get them. I began recall training about a week ago.
