Nooooooo, it's good that you care... I'd be worried too!
I just hope that a vet refuses to do it for her reasoning that the bird will be better dead than heartbroken. Birds get rehomed at all ages and for all kinds of reasons. I bet some of them had stronger bonds than she thinks her bird has with her.
