hi there!
welcoem to the thread
i'm glad u found this forum in hopes of finding someone with a african grey that is someone like the one you are about to get.
since your grey is only three weeks old u still got quite a number of weeks to go
i got ajax at 13 weeks old
so jsut make sure the breeder has weaned your parrot before you recieve the bird
perches:
i use different diameters. ranging form 1", 3/4" and 1/2"
i also used the EXACT same platform made for chinchillas
but i was told the platform wasn't a big enough area, but buy the larger sized one
ajax doens't seme to prefer a certain size. he just goes on all of them
rope perches are great as it's soft. since our greys are misisng nails.. they are more prone to get sores on the underside of their feet
not sure about the tent.
i wouldn't use it (but it's jsut my opinion) i was goign to buy him one a while back and i was told that it's not a god idea as they may just like to stay in there(not sure if this was true but better safe than sorry)
ajax has 3 out of 8 nails left
his grip is not terrible....
he has learnt to cope with it
he has rarely fallen off any of his perches/playstand/play top
when he was younger he (he loves shoulders) he use ot have a hard time getting a grip when we walk around.
so we've learnt to walk really slow and he's learned to shift his weight and grab on with his beak.
ajax was clipped by the breeder. so he has not learnt to fly yet but we are workign on that as i just finished harness training him
so i cna't tell you how his landing will be
ajax is one now and i can not ask for a better parrot
he's very well behaves, loving, playfull, and tame dispite his rough start in life
we also went to see a lady who specialized in special abled parrot cage setup and this is how she told us to set up the cage
some key points she gave us
1. have some platforms
2.make sure perches are not straigh across (if u use a rope perch u can wind and twist it in different directions)
3.make sure all perches, platforms, ladders are not wobbly and secured tightly with zip ties (if things are wobbly they will have lower confidence)
4.make sure the toys do no block access to perches
here are some pics
:D
if u have any more questiosn feel free to post a thread

i have taken out the smaller platforms and bought bigger ones or made some of my own
i have also twisted and zipe tied everything down (i shoudl really take a updated pic)

bad wing clipping thanks to the breeder

ajax grip and climbing
they cope with having missing nails very well especially if they are young or if it happened when they were in the nest
they do not know any different
so they don't even think they are special abled.
that's all for now hope it helps
