Question cag & CAT?

Hi,with enslin here,i have a really important question here,we got a cat yesterday and i am wondering if cats and cags can go along with eachother?the cat is already 2 years old,and my cag is 3 1/2,so if how long should i wait or how could i bring them together?they do not have to get friends but accept eachother because i dont want my cag to have to stay in the cage all the time because the cat is around i would also never leave them alone together when my cag would be out his cage, the cat is scared of my cag anyway but my cag not of the cat,so what should i do?thanks, sara

I have a cat in the house (most of the time, she stays out during the day).
Please watch your cat VERY closely, especially since its an adult cat. I've had mine since she was a kitten, she is indifferent towards the birds, she doesn't bother with them, they don't bother her. I still wouldn't trust her in the house alone when the birds are out, however. A cat is a cat.....and birds are a natural prey for them. Its good that the cat is scared of the CAG, maybe she'll run out of the room when he's out of the cage

The two may never fully accept eachother, though when you bring your cag out, you should have the cat locked up in a room until the cag goes back into the cage...

I've had my cat since he was a kitten, and he would like nothing better to do than "play" with my cag. Seeing the thousand of scratch marks I have on my hands from him "playing" with me, this could be disastrous. When Ollie flies, he takes off chasing after her. I can't leave the room for a second if she is out of her cage, unless he is shut in my bedroom. There is not a cat in the world that can be entirely trusted with a bird. It is just their natural instinct to go after birds.

I am making it work with a cat and a cag, but you can't turn your back for even a second. My cat is squirt bottle trained, so if he ever makes a move toward the bird, he gets squirted. It seems to be working so far. Please be very careful!

You can live with a cat and a bird if you understand one thing: you can NEVER EVER trust the cat. Cats are hunters and it is an instinctive behavior that you just can't stop.

My 2 cats have no interest in Scarlett. They ignore her when she is in her cage and they ignore her when she is on her boing. The only time I see them even look at her is when my bird is being a brat and flies down to the floor. Then they just kind of watch her like "what is that red thing doing over there?" Even though they have never attempted to go after Scarlett, I still do not trust them around her. Hunting behavior is just part of who they are and there's no guarantee that they won't decide to go after her one day.

I never leave the bird out of her cage unsupervised. If the cats were ever to hurt or kill her (God forbid), it wouldn't be their fault--it would be mine for not being vigilant enough.

Cats have a natural instinct to hunt even if they are pampered pets. They also have a natural instinct to play, look how they chase a ball of yarn. Even if they don't want to eat/kill your bird, they may just want to "Play" with him. Cat saliva is toxic to birds so even a playful or accidental bite could be fatal. Please try not to even have your cat and bird in the same room-things happen so fast-phone rings, kid screams, smoke detector goes off, knock at the door...........anything could distract you.

A lot of people have cats and birds. The most important thing in dealing with this combination is, any injury where the skin is boken on the bird, by a cat can be fatal, if not taken to a vet. Claw scratches or bites, they both can cause death to the bird.

I would recomend looking into getting a scat matt that I read about in an article, to put it around the cage. I plan on getting one of these to keep my baby safe from other animals in the house. But during the day the bird will be in the bedroom where I know he will be safe from harm.
