Unhappy My African Grey lost a claw?

I was cleaning his cage about a 3 weeks ago and he was on the top side of the cage. I thought he was clear of the top and when I opened the top it snapped his nail off.I is almost all off at that point there was no blood at all. Will it grow back. i am feel horrible and heseems to be doing fin justa little off balance once in a while. I have been so beside myself that I broke my bird. i love him dearly and was no way intentional. I just fear it wont grow back. We have only had him for a about 8 months now. And I am trying find a vet near by but We are stationed in Germany with USAF and I am witing till my husband comes home from his deployment in April to tske him to the vet, becuse he trusts my husband alot more than me. Any info if his claw will grow back would help me alot. thanks Renee Mazzoli

It depends upon what "claw" means. If it is the black part (toenail) then unless it its broken really deep, it probably will. If it is the gray scaly part(toe) then it most likely will not.

their nails grow like ours. Chances are, if it broke off at the skin, it wont, If it is damaged from where it grows, (Matrix) no, it will not grow back and if it does, it might be deformed. The matrix is only living reproducing part of the nail. New cells form from the maxtrix are continually pushed forward to produce the nail.
She/ he will do just fine with a missing nail. The important part is to make sure there is no infection if you took skin along with the nail, an dhad an open wound from the loss of the nail.

if you just took the very tip of the nail off, with a little blood, and most of the nail remains, it will grow back fine. the reason he would be off balance is because he is sore in the senerio. Again, just like when we break our nail

can you take a pic of it?
