One wing

Can someone please advise me. I have a semi-tamed CAG. I had both his wings clipped about 2 months ago, he has started flying again and I am worried he is going to do himself some damage. A friend of mine who has parrots himself advised me to clip only 1 of his wings as he found this is stops them flying altogether and makes it much easier to work with the parrot. He only did this until he was able to get his parrot to step up and remain calm. Do you think is is advisable? Also how long does it take for the vet to trim is nails? I thought of having wings and nails done in one go as I just can't take his screaming, to me its so heart breaking.
Thank you kindly

i wouldnt trim just one wing
it throws them off balance and when they need to fly a bit (to land safely) they are less likely to be able to do so

and it only takes a </= minute to trim the nails

I would not trim just one wing. Greys are heavy bodied birds; a symmetrical trim of a few flight feathers on both sides is sufficient to prevent flight, while still allowing the bird to control his descent if he does get spooked and jumps (that's just instinct, you can't really stop that). An uneven cut causes the bird to lose all control and can result in serious injuries as he crashes into things.

The asymmetrical trim was something that people used to recommend years ago, but it has fallen out of favor as it's really not good for the bird. Trim both sides - it'll do the trick just fine.

I'm with everyone else... trim both or none. Marti already has a hard enough time flying straight... I'd hate to see him try to fly with only one wing trimmed.

One wing clipping is old school stuff that is proven to be very dangerous for them. Have both clipped properly so the bird can still break his fall and steer to avoid objects while going down.
