Appropriate age to bring home

I have found a 9 wk CAG. Is that too young to bring home? How delicate are they at that age? I have nothing but time to commit to my new baby. I want to make sure he/she can handle the adjustment.

Please wait until the baby is weaned. I understand the excitement of wanting to get your baby home as soon as possible but for the future health of the baby it really is better to wait until they are eating completely by themselves. So much can go wrong when people take over the handrasing process and I'd hate to see you here with a problem. At 9 weeks a CAG would still be being handraised. Weaning is normally done by about 14-16 weeks depending on the individual babe.

I waited for my guy from the time he was an egg. My breeder lived about a 3 hour car trip from me so would send progress photos which I looked forward to so I could see Arthur growing from a fluffy grey chick to the beautiful bird I picked up.

I myself am a breeder with handraising experience but wasn't willing to handraise my guy. Prefer to wait for the breeder to finish his job. Just try and be patient, prepare for your babes arrival and ask if you can visit or get progress photos.

Thank you. I am so glad I asked. I am not in a big hurry to bring the baby home but the breeder says they are ready to go and they will be fine. She doesn't hold the birds and she only has one left and I just didn't want to let it pass. I do want to make sure that he/she is ready to come to his/her new home without any problems.

gah! is she saying its fully weaned?? or is she saying you can handfeed it. If the breeder is telling you to take the baby before its weaned and you have zero handfeeding expirience then she is simply lazy and greedy and NOT in the best interest of the baby. If she says its fully weaned at 9 weeks then she forced it. I myself would take a baby like this but I am an experienced handfeeder and know what to do in an emergency. Im glad you are patient. Ask maybe if you can purchase the baby and visit until its weaned??
