Question Blood Feather?

Hey everyone!

I just wanted your opinions on a nasty blood feather Buckeye has. He is holding his wing out and is refusing to pull it back in. It is right at the tip of the wing, and it is HUGE. The feather seems to be causing him pain, so would it be best If I pull it? I do know how to pull blood feathers, but I am always leery about pulling wing feathers. So, should it stay or should it go?

thank goodness QuakerLover4ever that I read this you mudt immediately pull it out before he dies of blood lost

here a few steps i did to pull out a blood feather sonic had

step 1: get a towel a tweezer and a few tissues incase he needs cleaning the wing

step 2: pull it out as fast and firmly as you can

P.S : of course you'll here pain screeches in pain but it will suffer more if you leave it in

No. You must have misunderstood me. It isn't broken, but it is hurting him. It's fine, and not bleeding. Sorry for being vague about it.

He might have it twisted in the socket. Will he let you touch it?

No he whines a bit, so that's why I thought it was causing him pain. He doesn't want me near it.

You might consider taking him to an avian vet. It's possible he has an infection in his wing. I could be wrong, and it could just be a new feather growing in and it's bothering him...

travieso, a broken blood feather will not lead to death by blood loss, unless the blood does not clot up like it should.

I'll try to get a picture of it tomorrow. When I took him outside and sat him down, he was flapping his wings. So I think he might have hurt his feather then. :(
