I have never used them. I will say that I play the t.v. and radio for my guys every day, generally the same shows (Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN) and I have yet to hear them mimic any of these programs. On the other hand they love to imitate me and each other. I have heard of an African Grey who imitates the announcers for Yankee baseball but my guys seem to tune it out if it isn't 'live' so I haven't bothered with the CD's.
I realize I have to adjust that statement a little bit. I have the Birdwatcher DVD and they (especially my little Bing) have imitated the obnoxious screaming of other parrot types from that but it's worth it because little Dave gets so excited when he hears the opening music clueing him in that it is about to start.

The answer to that is no, cd's are not good for training.
I've heard this from many experts, most of them saying that if you keep repeating a word all day eventually they will get sick of hearing it (like us!). A good way to teach them how to talk is to get them at their umm how can I say this "peak" I guess. For example most birds first word is hello, reason for that is because when you come home the bird gets excited to see you and whats the first thing you say to him/her? Hello! That's all I can really remember as a tip. |

I have one of the CD's... it's one of the bird phonics. I didn't get it to teach them how to talk...just something interesting for them to listen to. Rayne started saying 'Good girl' after watching this youtube video of another GCC talking. She even says the bird's name on and off when she wants to watch the video again! It's mainly just a snippit of a song, or rhyme, or a line from a play, or something like that. At one time, it sounded like they were trying to repeat some of it, but they haven't listened to it for awhile now. It's not bad to 'keep their minds busy' (I work nights so I need them kinda quiet sometimes during the day), but I don't know as it would be any good at teaching them to talk.
