Taking a bath?

My TAG keeps throwing his head into his water bowl, losing balance, and flapping his wings. Is he trying to take a bath?

Sure does sound like it. I routinely shower my birds on a tension rod in the bathroom. Greys like to shower often and prefer cooler water.

Some like to take the plunge on top of their cages if you provide a shallow dish, with about an inch of water and a few ice cubes. Many parrots will immediately take a dive in their dishes when you run the vacuum cleaner. No one really knows why, but 6 out of my ten will.

Really? I'd always read that greys had an aversion to water and it's a chore to get most to bathe.

Granted, I've only worked with one (TAG), and he certainly didn't care for showers much, so I assumed it was true.

Here is Gracie taking a bath in her water dish. For some reason she will not do it in a larger "tub" that I provide her, but she has lots of fun getting everything within a 15 feet of her soaking wet.
She is a blast to watch when she takes her bath, and for some reason it's always the vacuum cleaner that sets her off. No one has yet been able to explain why that is but it holds true for many birds.

That's so cute!

My birds will occassionally bathe when they hear the vacuum, but not consistently.

I love it when they bathe in their water dishes... it's so funny seeing them try to splash water over their feathers from a container too narrow to fit their whole bodies in.

Well, so much for stereotyping.

I have to drag my Gray in the shower kicking, screaming and biting. After she's in there its OK, and she does prefer cooler water.

I think they prefer their water dishes BECAUSE the water is usually room temp or cooler.

Wow! My Bosco LOVES the shower!!! He has his own shower perch and hates for his showers to end. Although he never dips in any of his bowls...and hates to be spritzed with a spray bottle! My Bosco does have a mind of his own (he he he)! He also likes all his water to be room temp....he doesn't care for cooler water.
My GCC on the other hand has his own "swimmig pool" in his cage which he uses daily! It's a shallow dish aprox. 6" across, 2" deep...meant for feeding rabbits or small animals...we keep an inch or so in there and he "swims" any time his little heart desires!

Thank you. I used a Nikon Coolpix 5700 and I am very happy with it.
