I learned a Bite Trick.

My CAG Jazzy, and I are great buddies. But I travel a lot on business. When Jazzy sees the suit case, she gets perturbed at me. She will then bite hard, and hang-on. Sometimes she breaks the skin....... When I get home she is all snuggles again. Because she likes to bite gently to be friendly, I hate to flinch every time she bites. So I learned that if I grab her beak (not hard) with the other hand, when she clamps down, she lets go immediately. I can then pull away before damage is done.

My bandaid consumption has gone down drastically. I'm for that...

Great! I do the same with my b&g, Elwood. He may get a bite or nip in, but I grab that beak and kiss him. He settles right down and gives me the tongue!

It looks like I have something to shoot for. Jazzy poofs out her feathers and is furious. She is like a bear trap with feathers. Eventually she does calm down before I go, and I get Bye Bye kisses.

So far, what seems to work with my GW macaw, is when she grabs my finger in an attempt to bite,I take my thumb and gently but firmly grab hold of the top beak, holding it in place. She immediately releases and is ready for 'mushing'.
