Cool Introducing WOODSTOCK, my baby African Grey

Hi all. I'm introducing Woodstock, my Congo African Grey. He was born on September 4th, 2005 in West Hollywood, CA, weights 411 grams, is about 33 cm (13 in.) tall. His favorite food is WARM pizza crust (still the only food has eaten directly from my hand). I'm assuming he's male, but I'm not sure of the sex.

Here are some pics of the guy. He already says hi and does the wolf whistle whenever he sees a new person. He has a rare mutation, where he has 3 white toe nails, instead of all black ones (visible in photo #3):

Thank you! I've had him for 3 weeks now and so far so good. He loves to preen himself, so I've been trying to introduce some toys to him. He will play with them when he's out of the cage, but not so much when he's in his cage, so I guess that has been the biggest obstacle for me so far.

Thanks again, and I know, those white toenails are wicked. Makes him easy to identify.

That's for sure!!

Maybe you can get him interested in his toys by playing with them in front of him? Or maybe try weaving paper through the cage bars? The 2006 Birds USA magazine has a whole article entitled, "Teach Play" with tips to encourage your bird to play with toys.

Here is a link I have found about this topic:

He's gorgeous! I have never seen toes like that either. Ollie can't resist checking something out if I'm messing with it- I'd try that.

Introducing Woodstock

Hi Woodstock!
On the toys, try smaller ones at first. Your bird is still quite young. Make sure they are easy ones to destroy. I find that greys like leather so anything with leather strips may be a good idea.

My grey loves toilet paper rolls (unscented white paper) and coca-cola bottle caps (the plastic ones). You might try those, too.
Woodstock is beautiful!
