Parrots for Dummies

I just purchased this book. I currently have a Vos. Ekkie and will be brining home a baby grey in January.

This book was talkling about the digging Grey's do. I had birdsat a TAG once and noticed he did this also. This book suggested taking a cat litter box and adding sand to allow the bird to dig. I would be concerned the bird would try to eat the sand.

Has anyone does this?

I'll have to ask Nikki next time about that.
he doesnt need sand to dig. he'll dig in the weirdest places. he will actually look like he is ice skating sometimes too!!!!

Bella is the odd one. I never saw her do the grey digging. She doesn't flip herself on her back either. She's definately the odd one. :p

Sparky hangs upside down from his cage top and digs at the bars over and over sometimes/ He did it the very first day I brought him home.

I have never seen ZZ do it.

My parent's TAG digs at the newspaper at the bottom of her cage. My Ziggy does as well. I wouldn't suggest litter or sand. They have this special stuff that's like small bits of wood...I think it's called KayKob Bedding and Litter. Maybe it's not wood, maybe the inside of corncobs. You can try that if you want, or just shred newspaper. Greys want to forage.
