Household Air Refreshers

Is Febreeze safe to use in a room with a CAG or is there a product to refreshen a room that is safe? I know not to use scented candles and lots of sprays, but want to know if any type spray is safe?At the present I use just a bowl of plain white Vinagar it seeme to pull any odors to it, but I want something that smells better.

Nope! Febreeze is WAY bad. I am not aware of any "sprays" that are safe.

Febreeze, I understand, is probably the worst.... many accounts of birds dying after it's been used.

I've heard different views on the Febreeze, but I still wouldn't trust it... I would assume baking soda would be completely safe however...

Here's an idea... taken from Your Parrot Place

All Natural Air Freshener

If you like your house to smell nice, but don't want to use potentially toxic commercial air freshener sprays, here's a natural alternative that smells great & is totally bird safe. (Remember, scented candles, potpourri, incense & essential oils can all be potentially toxic to birds, as well).

Fill a small saucepan ½ full with water. Toss in a cinnamon stick, a Tb of cloves, tsp of rosemary, & slice of orange and/or lime (with peel).

Bring to a boil, then simmer uncovered for ½ hour or so. You can get creative by adding fresh grated ginger, fresh spearmint or peppermint leaves, or some nutmeg and allspice for variation. Your house will smell great & your birds will be safe! It's especially nice around the holidays. You can put it in a spray bottle & spritz the air, or leave the pan on the stove & add a little water, then re-simmer over the next few days to continue keeping your house sweet!
Taken from Winged Wisdom
  • Set out a dish of cut lemons or baking soda to absorb odors.
  • Simmer on the stovetop or in a slow cooker: water, slices of ginger, spices such as cinnamon, cloves, allspice, vanilla and almond extracts, and lemon and other citrus fruit slices to make your house smell fresh.

A good Hepa air purifier would get rid of odor too.

My daughter's caique died within hours after my son-in-law sprayed a small amount of Febreeze on the total opposite side of their apartment.

I use Citrus Magic. They sell it at Bird Paradise in Jersey. Unfortunately, it's not on their web site (Kathie, is there anything that can be done about that?). It's a grey't product, and really makes the house smell good. AND IT'S SAFE!!!

Something else that you could do would be to boil some orange slices with a couple of cinnamon sticks. Although, I do caution you.... it smells really good, it might make you hungry.
